As we are currently not funded, all team roles are voluntary and unpaid, but we will endeavor to support you, work around your time and open up opportunities for you where possible.

Copy Editor

Copy Editors are responsible for primary edits of the raw article, plus additional suggestions for article improvement. This includes using our editorial template to carry out spelling and grammar checks, suggestions for better wording where necessary, and comments on content as required.

Essential requirements:
– High level of English proficiency, including immaculate spelling and grammar
– Strong time management and organisational skills
– Perceptive to what stimulates and affects our readership

 

Creative Assistant

The Creative Assistant will work with the editors to develop and commission visual content for The Platform. This includes developing posters, GIFs and other visuals for The Platform’s website and Instagram page.

Essential Requirements:
– Passionate about, and experienced in, creative digital content
– Working knowledge of Photoshop
– Demonstrable interest in news and current affairs
– Strong communication skills
 

Social Media Manager

The Social Media Manager will manage the content of The Platform’s social media channels and help develop its vision. This includes liaising with the wider team on a social media timetable for Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.

Essential requirements:
– Strong interest in current affairs, culture and news trends
– Relevant track record of running different social media channels
– An understanding of social media data analytics to measure engagement
– Confidence in handling external communications and sensitive subjects
– Ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure

 

Events and Publicity Officer

The events and publicity officer will help lead on enhancing participation and engagement with our work. This includes ensuring The Platform has a presence at related events and festivals, as well as developing a manageable series of organised events (beginning online during the time of the pandemic) using our network of contacts.

Essential requirements
– Experience in organising small to medium scale events
– Strong organisational and time management skills, able to meet tight deadlines
– Sound technical skills, for example, able to host Zoom meetings confidently
– Strong communication and teamwork skills
– Passion for youth work and online media
– An interest in current affairs and culture

 

Business Manager

The business manager has the primary responsibility of developing and implementing a fundraising strategy for The Platform, and organising the finances of the project. This includes completing grant applications and increasing fundraising opportunities through key contacts.

Essential requirements:
– Related field of work or study
– Demonstrable experience with writing proposals and business plans
– Excellent organisational skills
– Attention to detail and excellent language skills
– Passion for youth work and online media
– Ability to develop a business strategy and vision
