Showcasing the faces of the future
SAIYYIDAH ZAIDI
Resolutely ambitious with a smile on her face, Saiyyidah Zaidi represents a new age of Muslim women who believe that balancing career, family and faith is totally achievable. It is around this concept that the organisation ‘Working Muslim’ functions, of which she is the Founder.
Saiyyidah originally trained as an architect at the Mackintosh School of Architecture in Glasgow. She developed a desire to improve the briefing of architects and she moved to the project leadership aspect of regeneration. Saiyyidah then moved back to London and worked for various local authorities. After 9/11 she worked in inner London and also took a conscious decision to express her Islamic identity further. Within 10 years, she went from a Project Manager to a Director of a £300 million regeneration scheme in west London.
Following various realisations Saiyyidah decided to start her own organisation where she could empower other Muslim entrepreneurs and businesses by providing access to executive coaching, leadership training and strategic advice, as well as enabling non-Muslim employers to develop and understand their Muslim workforce better, and she does this through Working Muslim. Saiyyidah is also a partner in McLean Stone and Chair of Governors of a secondary school.
Here, she tells The Platform what makes up the inner mind of Saiyyidah Zaidi – what challenges she has faced, what motivates her and what inspiration she can give to others.
