Now that winter has set in, bringing with it long drawn-out nights and dark bleak mornings, there is no better time to indulge in hearty warming breakfasts. Although going out for afternoon tea has been the fashion of late, there are many chic and cosy places which are starting to become popular enough to create a breakfasting trend to rival that of high tea.
So for those who ever feel the need for a morale and energy boosting breakfast, I present three very different, but very tasty places to try out.
Breakfast Club
The Breakfast Club has several branches across London and its popularity comes from its high spirited, bohemian take on all-day breakfasts. Painted bright yellow and decorated in a random collection of homey objects, this place is perfect to erase SAD syndrome. They offer many varieties of breakfast including pancakes, smoothies, proper coffee, wraps, salads, and fruity puddings. But whichever option is chosen, each one boasts the hearty warming breakfast factor. It’s a lovely cosy place to socialise on harsh winter mornings, although it gets packed very quickly, so be prepared to wait for a seat (the wait is definitely worth it).
Patisserie Valerie
Most people know that Valerie’s cakes are amazing, but those who have sat down in the cafes and ordered hot food will know that this is just as good. Essentially the food is French, but people shouldn’t be put off by this as the menu is decipherable and their breakfasts are ravishingly edible. Served up in enormous portions of more than enough delectably French breakfast, this will keep one going throughout the day. Unlike the Breakfast club, the choice here is a little more refined, including options such as poached eggs, eggs Florentine and smoked salmon.
Dishoom
Dishoom is the wild-card breakfast choice. Based on an infamous cafe in Mumbai, India, called Cafe Leopold, Dishoom delivers its western take on classic Mumbai-style breakfasts. Highlights of the menu include the traditional dishes such as spicy Bombay omelette, Indian chai and chilli jam with soft hot naan. Dishoom’s selling point is its vintage Indian decor and the fact that it is the first Bombay cafe in London, making it a perfect option for adventurous breakfasters.
So as Christmas bells begin to toll and that tingling feeling of upcoming cosy holidays creeps up, perhaps enter those caves of warmth and try out a new breakfast in style. Happy holidays.
